Integrating Action Methods in Individual
Therapy
With Sylvia Israel, MFT, RDT/BCT, TEP
Incorporating experiential methods into working with individual therapy can enliven and inspire both client
and therapist. Participants will learn practical action techniques, drawn from psychodrama, including role-play, use of the action time line and methods of choice making. Attention will be given to
warm- up, action and closure of each session. Therapeutic goals will inform the use of each intervention. Participants will practice techniques, taking the role of therapist, client and
witness.
This training is designed for licensed marriage
and family therapists, creative arts therapists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, social workers pastoral counselors and students; for those new to the field as well as those with
experience.

- Apply at least 3 psychodramatic methods to your work with individuals and couples
- Assess how to work safely with individuals, drawing from trauma and brain research
- Utilize body awareness through mindfulness and theater practices
- Demonstrate moving from talking to action, from the therapist chair to the action or stage area
Sylvia Israel, MFT (mfc #31245), TEP, RDT/BCT, is a nationally certified Psychodrama
Trainer, Educator, Practitioner (TEP), Registered Drama Therapist/Board Certified Trainer (RDT/BCT) and Founder/Director of IMAGINE! Center for Creativity and Healing,
Founder/past-Director of Bay Area Playback Theatre and Founding member of Bay Area Moreno Institute. She is adjunct faculty at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) and has presented at
Spirit Rock Meditation Center and professional gatherings nationally and internationally. Sylvia is past President of the Northern California Chapter of the National Association of Drama Therapy. Her
work blends verbal therapy, psychodrama and other expressive arts. Sylvia specializes in grief and loss, blocks to creativity, trauma and childhood abuse recovery. She maintains a private practice in
Marin and San Francisco working with individuals, couples and families.
