Spontaneity and Creativity: Expanding Through Psychodrama

In this workshop we will delve into the basic philosophical underpinning of Psychodrama, the Canon of Creativity. The Canon explains the relationship between spontaneity and creativity and how these are needed to move from how things are to something new. The Canon includes the spiritual component of Psychodrama, as well as providing a practical map that guides directors through every enactment. Exploring the Canon will give us a fuller understanding of what it means to warm up to change and expanding our roles. There will be opportunities for student directing and processing dramas through the lens of the canon.

After the workshop students will be better able to:

-Discuss what Moreno meant by the Godhead.

-List 4 components of the Canon of Creativity

-Explain the importance of spontaneity and creativity in each psychodrama

-Apply your understanding of the Canon of Creativity to a drama

-Give examples of warm-ups that enhance spontaneity

Sylvia Israel, MFT (mfc #31245), TEP, RDT/BCT, is a nationally certified Psychodrama Trainer, Educator, Practitioner (TEP), Registered Drama Therapist/Board Certified Trainer (RDT/BCT) and Founder/Director of IMAGINE! Center for Creativity and Healing, Founder/past-Director of Bay Area Playback Theatre and Founding member of Bay Area Moreno Institute. She is adjunct faculty at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) and Kansas State University and has presented at Spirit Rock Meditation Center and at professional gatherings nationally and internationally. Sylvia is past President of the Northern California Chapter of the National Association of Drama Therapy. Her work blends verbal therapy, psychodrama and other expressive arts.
